Like most people, I used to drag myself out of bed in the morning and walk zombie-like straight to a nice cup of hot coffee. The problem is that coffee does not really make you feel like can seize the day full of energy. Get yourself an awesome morning routine like this.
I do this routine before my morning cup of Joe and it works. This is a better way to start the day that will have you throttled with energy that lasts.
- Begin by doing a quick stretch.Put your hands on your lower back and lean slightly back, feeling the stretch in your upper torso hold for 3 seconds and then reach down to attempt to touch your toes, hold for 3 seconds.Finally, raise up and reach for the sky and raise up on your toes. Feel the whole body stretching for 3 seconds. Then bring your arms down to your sides by extending them out.Repeat this stretch 2 times.
- For the next exercise we are going to complete 30 power breaths. This will oxygenate the body and make you feel great. You can be in any position for this but I recommend either lying down or sitting on a cushion in case the effects of this exercise cause you to fall down (you will see what I mean).You will do the power breaths by breathing in powerfully and letting go (through the mouth) on the out-breath. This is meant to clear Co2 out of the body and fill the body with pure oxygen. It does not matter if you breath through the mouth or nose on the in-breath, whatever works best for you.After 30 breaths we are going to take one deep breath in and then breathe out and hold until the gag reflex kicks in. We then breathe in and hold for about 15 – 20 seconds with eyes closed. You might experience seeing lights or a rush of energy flush your body and head during this hold.Finish this by doing a meditation of following the breath for about 5 minutes.Observe how you feel during this time.
- Now we are ready to really wake up by jumping into a cold shower. If you are new to cold showers you can start with warm and then finish off with a cold shower.After some experience and getting used to it jumping straight into cold water is not as difficult. It took me a couple weeks of adaptation but now I can jump right in.
Mind Over Matter
Just remember: mind over matter. Don’t think about it, just do it!
I have been doing this routine for about a month and I have to tell you, I don’t think anything else compares. It will give you the energy you need to go full force into your day. You will feel like you can accomplish anything.
Some Additions To Consider
-Add the whole body shake and vibrate after the stretching exercise. Just stand and begin shaking and vibrating the whole body for about a minute. This will enliven you and really gets the blood flowing throughout the whole body.
-The power breaths can be broken into 3 or 4 sets of 30 to 40 breaths. This is how it is taught by Wim Hof (The Iceman), but it takes much longer to complete (about 20 minutes).
This is a great way to start the day with an overcome limits attitude.
The cold shower in and of itself is definitely the most important component of this morning ritual. If you do not have time for anything else jump in that cold shower while doing the power breaths. Feel as if your breath is oxygenating your whole body with warmth.
