Well, that is what the ‘Unlock Your Hip Flexors’ program would have you believe. I am going in the trenches and doing a full review of ‘Unlock Your Hip Flexors’ to see whether it is legit or just another scam.
What Is Unlock Your Hip Flexors About?
Unlock Your Hip Flexors is a program about fixing tight hip flexors that are the cause of many problems such as nagging pain in your lower back, bad posture, high anxiety, and digestive problems. As it is explained, tight hip flexors affects nearly everybody and impacts your whole body. Everything flows through the hips causing it to impact how well we sit, stand, walk, step, bend, reach, and twist.
The whole point of this program is to bring your hip flexors to optimal health through a method called the ‘Sequential Flow Method’. This method has a specific sequence that you follow with specific movements. These movements are things like PNF stretching, dynamic stretching, core stability exercises, mobility exercises, fascia stretching, and muscle activation movements. Who Is The Creator And Is He Legit?
The creator of this program is an injury specialist, Rick Kaselj, MS. Rick is a Kinesiologist who specializes in exercise rehabilitation and fitness. He created this program with Mike Westerdal, the creator of Critical Bench, a well-established program for building muscle primarily with the bench press.
They both have been around for quite some time, a combined 43 years in the industry. As Rick Kaselj is the creator, Mike primarily just helped him distribute this program online. Rick’s specialty is creating exercises for helping people live pain-free. On his site he tells us that he is also a speaker that has given 302 presentations to 5897 fitness professionals in the USA and Canada. Seems legit enough for me. But we still need to know if his program works.
Psoas Is The Hip Flexor Muscle
The hip flexor muscle we have been talking about is called the psoas. This is the muscle that you are trying to “balance” out in this program for optimal hip flexor health. Rick refers to this muscle as the “hidden survival muscle” on the sales page for good reason. The psoas is the muscle that connects all the movements of the upper body with that of the lower body. “The muscle attaches to the vertebrae of the lower spine, moves through the pelvis and connects to a tendon at the top of the femur. It also attaches to the diaphragm, so it’s connected to your breathing, and upon it sits all the major organs.

Yeah, it is a majorly important muscle that needs to be in good health if you want to perform optimally. It can make you weaker in many areas of your life, especially the gym. I have experienced excrutiating back pain because of a very common problem with most people, SITTING.
Sitting causes tightness in your psoas which leads to high stress, weak posture, weight gain, and trouble sleeping at night among other problems. But just stopping sitting is not the answer because you need to correct all the damage already caused by the sitting. This can be done by using Rick’s Sequential Flow Method.
The Answer Is The ‘Sequential Flow Method’
So the Sequential Flow Method is what Rick has created to help stretch the psoas muscle. The reason he had to create this method is because the psoas muscle cannot be reached by static stretching alone. It is a muscle that is deep within the hip region of your body and cannot be “simply stretched”.
So Rick came up with a method that stretches the psoas in a particular sequence using different types of methods for stretching. I mentioned it above but again these include PNF stretching, dynamic stretching, core stability exercises, mobility exercises, fascia stretching, and muscle activation movements. These movements combined in the specific ordered sequence is supposed to unlock your hip flexors.

My Experience With This System
I first need to tell you that I have been suffering with excrutiating back pain caused by doing heavy barbell squats. My back had literally gone out on the lower position of the squat and I had to drop the bar off my shoulders. After this happened I rested my back and did a lot of stretching and did not do squats for a while. A few weeks later I started again, and shortly after my back went out again.
